Heart Diseases – The Reality in Malaysia
Cardiovascular disease has remained the number one killer for the past 3 decades in Malaysia. In 2009, the Ministry of Health (MOH) surveyed that one in every four deaths at government hospitals are related to cardiovascular disease, and this rate has been projected to increase in the years to come.
The risk of Malaysians developing heart disease is on the rise as the risk factors that are associated with it such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity and high cholesterol as well as unhealthy lifestyles – smoking and drinking excessively, are also on the rise.
According to MOH, there are approximately 5 million Malaysians out there who are at risk and only 110,000 Malaysians have been officially diagnosed and recorded to suffer from some form of cardiovascular disease.
Early Detection –Preventing the Disease
It is of utter importance that we are aware of the various symptoms such as dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, heart palpitations or chest pains in detecting heart-related diseases. These symptoms may or may not be the onset of an episode but as they say, prevention is better than cure!
An Electrocardiogram (ECG) is the most effective way of diagnosing a patient’s heart condition as it accurately measures the electrical activity of the heart. In order for these irregularities to be captured and ECG must be taken at the time of discomfort. The tricky part is, those symptoms can be short and transient and as such, many people are unaware they are experiencing any irregularities, or by the time they get to the hospital for an ECG, the discomfort would have eased and the ECG would have a normal reading.
This is why there are many people out there who may be at risk of developing or are suffering from heart disease have not been accurately diagnosed and treated.
Get Pro-Active towards your Cardio Health - Monitor your ECG now!
Designed to be a monitoring device, or an early detection tool, the EPI Life, brought to you by Heartronics, is the world’s first mobile ECG device that is convenient and practical for users to consistently monitor and track their heart signals.
